Saving and your pieces

Where your pieces are kept, how they follow you between devices, and finding them again.

There's no save button. The studio keeps every piece as you work on it: each version, your parameter settings, its motion and the conversation with Perlin. Close the tab, come back next week, and the piece you left open is waiting.

Where your pieces are kept

Each change is saved in your browser a moment after you make it, so the studio opens quickly and keeps working if the connection drops. A copy also goes to VYBE.ART in the background, without sending again the versions it already has.

Whose pieces they are depends on whether you're signed in:

  • Signed out, pieces belong to this browser, which is recognised by a studio key kept in a cookie. They come back whenever you return in the same browser, for up to 400 days after your last visit. Clearing the browser's data for the site disconnects it from them.
  • Signed in, pieces belong to your account and follow you to every device you sign in on.

When you sign in, the pieces you made while signed out join your account. When you sign out, the browser forgets your account's pieces; they stay with your account for next time. See Accounts and signing in.

The save status

Beside the piece's title in the top bar, a small label says how the copy on VYBE.ART is doing:

LabelMeaning
SavingChanges are on their way
SavedEverything is up to date
OfflineThe server couldn't be reached. Your work is kept in this browser and goes up when the connection is back

The label appears once a piece has a version. It's left out on narrow screens.

My pieces

Click My pieces on the rail, or press L. On a phone it's the Pieces tab. Your pieces are listed with the most recently changed first, each with a thumbnail, its title, how many versions it has and when it last changed. Click one to open it.

A piece Perlin is still building says "Building…" with a dot, and a dot shows on the rail's icon too. Builds carry on while you work on something else: see Long builds and Keep going.

The list holds your 200 most recent pieces. You'll also find your pieces, with what you've shared and published, on your account page: choose My creations from the account menu at the top right.

Starting a new piece

Click New piece in the top bar, or at the top of My pieces. The piece you were on is saved first, and if Perlin was still building it, the build carries on.

Renaming a piece

  1. Click the title

Click the piece's title in the top bar.

  2. Type a new one

Up to 80 characters. Press Enter to keep it, or Esc to leave it as it was.

Until you rename it, a piece takes the title of the latest version Perlin made. Once you've named it yourself, it keeps your name.

Deleting a piece

  1. Open My pieces

    Press L.

  2. Find the bin

Hover over the piece and click the bin at the right. The piece open on stage has no bin: open another piece first.

  3. Confirm

    Click Delete? to delete it.

Deleting removes the piece, every version and its conversation, from this device and from your account. Share links and published pieces you made from it are copies of their own and stay up; you'll find them under Shared & published on your account page, where you can unpublish them.

Working on more than one device

Signed in, you can open the same piece on a laptop and a phone. Each device saves its own changes. When a device opens a piece, when you come back to its tab, and when it's back online, it checks for changes made elsewhere and brings them in.

If both devices changed the piece, nothing is lost: every version and every message from both is kept, and the piece shows the newest work. A build that Perlin finishes on the server lands in the piece wherever it's open.

What stays in one browser

  • Reference images you attach to a prompt stay in the browser you attached them from. Other devices show a small preview of each in the conversation.
  • Studio settings such as the effort level, the engine choice and switches like Sound FX are kept in each browser.

Assets in your library are kept with your account rather than in the browser: see Your asset library.
