Competitions

Monthly themes with prizes in Vybe Tokens: how to enter and how winners are picked.

Each month VYBE.ART sets a theme. You make a piece for it in the studio, publish it and enter it before the deadline. The VYBE.ART team plays every entry and picks a winner, who gets a prize in Vybe Tokens.

Entering is free. You need an account, but you don't have to buy anything to enter or to win.

Finding the competition

The competition page is linked as Competition in the site's footer. It leads with the competition that's open for entries, or, between deadlines, the one being judged, the next one to open, or the last result. Every competition keeps its own page, and Past themes at the bottom lists the earlier ones with their winners.

A competition's page has:

  • the theme, its status (Opens soon, Open for entries, Judging or Winner announced) and a countdown to when entries close or open. Times are shown in your own time zone.
  • the prize, in Vybe Tokens to the winner
  • The brief, what the theme is about, and the three things judging looks for
  • Ideas, when the competition has some: each one opens the studio with that idea waiting in Perlin's prompt box, ready for you to change and send
  • The rules, which answer the questions below
  • The entries, everything entered so far

When no competition is running, the page says the next theme is on its way and offers the newsletter, which announces each theme the day it opens.

Entering a piece

  1. Make your piece

Open the studio and describe your idea to Perlin. Tune it, ask for changes and keep going until it's yours.

  2. Publish it

Click Publish in the studio's top bar. See Share links and publishing. A piece you've only shared by link can also be published from the competition page in the next step.

  3. Open the entry picker

Go back to the competition page and click Enter a piece. Signed out, the button reads Sign up to enter: make an account, and you come back to the page with the picker open.

  4. Pick your piece

The picker, Pick your piece., lists the pieces you've shared and published, and how many you have in, such as "0 of 1 entered". Click Enter next to a published piece, or Publish and enter next to one that's only a link. The picker says "You're in. Good luck."

Your entries then show under The entries for everyone, marked Your entry for you, and the main button reads Your entries with your count.

Changing your entries

While entries are open you can change your mind:

  • Withdraw an entry from the picker. You can enter it again while entries are open.
  • Swap one piece for another by withdrawing one and entering the other. When you're at the limit, Enter is greyed out until you withdraw one.
  • Keep improving a piece you've entered. Work on it in the studio and click Update published piece in the Publish popover: your entry shows the update. It's judged as it stands when entries close.

Once entries close, the picker shows what you have in and can no longer change it.

Which pieces can go in

A piece can be entered when it's published and you made it. The picker lists every one of your shares, and says why one can't go in:

The picker saysWhat it means
A remix of someone else's pieceThe prize is for original work. A remix of your own piece is fine. See Remixes and credit.
Entered in another competitionA piece can only go into one competition.
Has no previewThe piece has no preview image to show in the listings.
Taken off the listingsThe piece has been taken off the community page.
Taken out by the VYBE teamThe team removed the entry.

Each competition sets how many pieces you can enter, shown in the picker and the rules.

The team takes out entries that break the rules or the site's terms, or have nothing to do with the theme. Unpublishing a piece also takes it out of the running until you publish it again.

Judging and prizes

After the deadline the page says the judging is on. The VYBE.ART team plays every entry and picks the one that's the most creative, original and inspiring. Favourites from the community don't decide it, though you can sort the entries by Most loved as well as Newest while you wait.

When the result is announced, the page shows the winner with their prize, and the winning and runner-up entries are marked Winner and Runner-up. The prize goes to the winner's account at that moment and shows on their plan page as a competition prize. Vybe Tokens are for making things with Perlin: they can't be exchanged for cash or passed to another account. See How Vybe Tokens work.
