Frequently asked questions
Ownership, privacy, pricing and the rest.
Short answers to the questions people ask most, with links to the full story. For anything about your rights and your data, the terms of service and the privacy policy are the final word, and the answers on those topics here only repeat what they say.
Getting started
Do I need to know how to code? No. You describe what you want in plain words and Perlin writes the code. The code is there to read and edit if you want to, in the Code drawer, but you never have to open it.
What can I make? Generative art, games, instruments and sound pieces, interactive toys, films and ads on a timeline, and pieces for VR headsets and AR. See Welcome to VYBE.ART.
What do pieces run on? One of three engines: three.js for real-time 3D, GLSL for shaders, and p5.js for 2D drawing. Perlin picks one for each idea, or you choose it under the prompt box. Every piece runs in its own isolated frame in your browser, with no access to your data.
Do I need an account? To work with Perlin, yes. Opening the studio, playing pieces, remixing them, editing code and sharing links work without one. See Accounts and signing in.
Which devices does it work on? A recent browser on a computer, tablet or phone. The Motion panel needs a screen at least 1024 pixels wide. VR pieces open on a Meta Quest, and AR pieces on a Quest or an Android phone in Chrome; elsewhere they play on the screen.
Why is Perlin called Perlin? It's named after Perlin noise, the noise that makes randomness feel natural.
Pricing and tokens
Is VYBE.ART free? Playing, remixing, tuning, editing code by hand, sharing, publishing and exporting are free. Perlin's work (making a piece, changing one, answering a question about it) is charged in Vybe Tokens. New accounts start with 150.
What does a request cost? It depends on what the request takes: the effort level matters most, and sound effects add a little each. Each of Perlin's replies shows the tokens it used. See How Vybe Tokens work.
What if a request fails, or I stop it? A request Perlin can't finish costs nothing. If you stop one partway, you pay for the work done up to that point. When a piece breaks, Perlin's repairs are free, up to 20 a day.
How do I get more tokens? Top up with a token pack, or go Pro for monthly tokens and more. See Token packs and Pro and Vybe Tokens.
Ownership and licence
Who owns what I make? The terms say that, as between you and VYBE.ART, the prompts you write and the pieces you make are yours, and VYBE.ART doesn't claim ownership of them. They also point out that AI output isn't unique (other people may get similar results from similar prompts) and that the law on rights in AI-generated work varies from place to place.
Can I use my pieces commercially? The terms make you responsible for how you use what you make, including checking it's suitable before you rely on it, exhibit it or use it commercially. Output is generated by AI, can be inaccurate or unexpected, and isn't reviewed before you see it. Read the terms before you put a piece to commercial use.
What do I allow when I share or publish? To run the service, you let VYBE.ART store, process and display your work for you. Sharing lets it show the piece to anyone with the link. Publishing also lets it list the piece on the site and feature it when promoting VYBE.ART, and lets other people play and remix it in the studio. You can unpublish at any time, which removes the listing; remixes others have already made stay with them.
How are remixes credited? A remix that's shared or published shows a "Remix of" credit linking to the piece it started from and naming who made it. Members on a paid plan can leave that credit off their remixes. See Remixes and credit.
Can I use images and files I didn't make? Only ones you have the right to use. The terms rule out uploading reference images you don't have the right to use, and infringing anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights.
Someone copied my work. What can I do? Email create@vybe.art with a link to the piece and a description of the work it copies, and it will be reviewed.
Privacy
Who can see my pieces? Only you, until you share them. A share link shows the piece, including its code, to anyone who has the link. Publishing also lists it on the home page and the community page, with your profile image and your username or first name beside it. Unpublishing removes the listing; the link keeps working.
Is my profile public? Every account has a public profile page with your name and image, the pieces you've published, your follower and following counts, and the month you joined. Who follows whom isn't shown to anyone else.
What happens to my prompts? Your prompts, reference images and the piece being edited are sent to AI model providers to generate Perlin's response. Sound and texture descriptions go to audio and image generation providers. Reference images are resized and kept in your browser, and they never end up inside the piece.
Do you sell my data? No. The privacy policy says VYBE.ART doesn't sell your data. It does use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, and the Meta Pixel to measure its ads; neither receives your prompts or your pieces. The privacy policy lists everything collected and the choices you have.
Can I delete my data? Delete pieces from My pieces in the studio and unpublish shares at any time. Delete your account from your account page. To ask for a copy of your data, a correction or a deletion, including a share link you can no longer reach, email create@vybe.art.
Accounts and the service
How old do I have to be? At least 13, and old enough to agree to the terms where you live.
Who runs VYBE.ART? Deprogram Pty Ltd, an Australian company.
Could I lose my work? The terms don't guarantee that the service will always be available or that stored work will never be lost, and suggest you export pieces you care about. Export, then Standalone HTML, downloads a piece as a single file that carries everything it uses. See Exporting files.
