Posting a clip

Post a few seconds of a piece to X or Instagram.

Post a clip turns a piece into a short video for X or Instagram, in a shape each one shows well, with a caption that ends in the piece's link and its hashtags. People who see the post can follow the link and play the piece live.

The piece isn't cropped from the stage: it runs again in the clip's shape, so it composes itself for a landscape timeline or a full-height phone screen.

Opening Post a clip

  • In the studio, click Share in the top bar and pick X or Instagram in the Post a clip row, or choose Post a clip from the Export menu.
  • On a piece's page, click the paper plane in the row along the top.

Post a clip isn't available while a piece shows an error. In the studio, opening it gives the version on stage a share link if it doesn't have one yet, so the caption has a page to point to.

Making and posting a clip

  1. Choose where it goes

Pick X or Instagram at the top of the panel. Each keeps its own shape and hashtags.

  2. Choose a shape

Under Shape, pick one of the platform's sizes. The preview restarts the piece in that shape.

    PlatformShapes
    X16:9 (1280 × 720), the widest in the timeline; 1:1 (720 × 720); 9:16 (720 × 1280), full height on a phone
    Instagram9:16 (1080 × 1920), a full-screen reel; 4:5 (1080 × 1350), as the feed crops it; 1:1 (1080 × 1080)
  3. Record the clip

Click Record 6s on the preview. The clip is rendered a frame at a time from the piece's start, so it's smooth however heavy the piece is. When it's done, the preview loops the clip, muted, with its length and file size. Record again throws it away. Before recording, Restart the piece gives the piece a fresh start.

A piece with a timeline is recorded for the whole of it, up to 60 seconds, and the button says so.

  4. Write the caption

The caption starts as the piece's title. Write over it. Below the box you can see what's always added at the end: the link to the piece's page, then the hashtags. The counter shows the length against the platform's limit, 280 for X and 2,200 for Instagram. X counts any link as 23 characters.

  5. Pick hashtags

Hashtags are suggested from what the piece is. X starts with three switched on and Instagram with five. Click a hashtag to switch it on or off, or type your own and press Enter. Instagram counts five hashtags on a post at most, so the panel stops you at five there.

  6. Post it

With an account linked, the button at the bottom says Post as @yourname (or Record & post as @yourname before there's a clip). Click it. When the post is up, the panel says so with a View it link. Without a linked account, see Posting by hand.

The clip is an MP4 at 30 frames a second, the format both platforms take, and carries the piece's sound when it has any.

Linking an account

Linking lets you post in one click from then on. It takes a VYBE.ART account, and it depends on the site being set up to post to that platform.

  1. Sign in to VYBE.ART

Signed out, the bottom of the panel says "Sign in to link your X account and post in one click", with a link to sign in.

  2. Link the platform

Click Link X to post in one click (or Link Instagram to post in one click). A sign-in window from the platform opens. Approve it there, and the panel says the account is linked.

Instagram only lets professional accounts, creator or business, post this way. The linked account shows at the bottom of the panel, with Unlink to remove it. If the platform stops accepting the link, the panel shows the account as unlinked so you can link it again.

There's a daily limit on clips one account can post this way. Past it, the panel says so, and you can still post by hand.

Posting by hand

You can always post a clip yourself. The By hand section has:

  • Record & download (Download clip once it's recorded), which saves the clip as a file. It's left out when the main button already does that.
  • Copy caption, which copies the whole caption with the link and hashtags.
  • Open X (X only), which opens X's own composer with the caption written. Attach the downloaded clip there.

Instagram has no way to start a post from a web page, so add the clip in the Instagram app and paste the caption.

When posting straight to the platform isn't set up on the site, the panel says "Posting straight to X isn't set up on this site yet" (or Instagram), and the main button saves the clip instead: Record & download the clip, or Download the clip once it's recorded. It does the same when you're signed out. On a phone, that button is Share to X or Share to Instagram, which opens the share sheet with the clip and the caption, so you can send them straight to the app.
